Meredith R. Nowland, 97, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Ashley, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 am March 24, 2026 at his Greentree Residential Living Center. He was born June 24, 1928 in Waltonville, Illinois to the late Harmen and Dell (Frick) Nowland. Meredith married Marilyn (Someski) Nowland on June 20, 1953 and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2022.

Meredith is survived by his sons, Gale (Charlet) Nowland of Waltonville, Randy (Marsha) Nowland of Waltonville, and Rick (Carolyn) Nowland of Scheller, Illinois; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Marcena Williams of Waltonville.

In addition to his parents and wife, Meredith was preceded in death by his son, Dale Nowland; and siblings, Gordon Nowland, Frank Nowland, and Helen Trader.

Meredith proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Knights of Columbus in DuBois, Ashley Sportsmans Club, and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. Meredith was as lifelong farmer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Meredith’s honor to the Waltonville VFW Post 9153. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
