Virgil  Ford, 92, of Mount Vernon, IL, passed away at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor March 31, 2026 at 2:45 pm in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born June 20, 1933 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Lester Ford and Edith (Phelps) Ford. Virgil married the late Norma (Bond) Ford on December 12, 1956.
Virgil is survived by his sons, Brian Ford and wife, Rhonda of Mt. Vernon, IL, Rodney Ford and wife, Pamela of Mt. Vernon, IL; daughter, Joyce Ford of Olney, IL; grandsons, Adam Ford and wife, Katelynn of Dix, IL and Landon Ford of Mt. Vernon, IL; great-granddaughter, Izzabella Ford of Dix, IL; and great-grandson, Julian Ford of Dix, IL; and sister, Frances Philbrick of Mt. Vernon, IL.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Debra Lee Ford and Paula S. Ford.
Virgil worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service in Mt. Vernon. He also farmed and served his country in the U.S. Army and he was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, IL. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Ted Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Wolf Prairie in Mount Vernon, IL with Full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Virgil’s honor to SSM Hospice.
