JEFFERSON COUNTY — A string of fires kept Jefferson County firefighters busy over the weekend.

One fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Bonnie, where a leaf and brush fire on West Helkin quickly spread to a nearby shed and the back end of a garbage truck.

The property is owned by Kenny Kash of Kenny’s Trash Service. One resident quickly moved the burning garbage truck out of the area, which led to four other vehicles being spared in the blaze.

Firefighters, who spent nearly 2-hours fighting the fire, were able save most of the shed contents and the shed itself from the blaze.

Jefferson County firefighters also responded to a camper on fire in Dix Sunday morning, and a mobile home fire on Breezway Road Friday night, as well as a mobile home fire Thursday night on Drivers Lane.
