WAYNE COUNTY — The location south of Fairfield where human remains were found Tuesday remains an active crime scene.

Teams of forensic specialists with the Illinois State Police and the FBI continue to gather evidence from the scene. Officials say it will be days, if not weeks, before they can identify the remains.

Access to the very remote Wayne County location is still restricted to authorized law enforcement officials only.
