JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 36-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been charged Thursday morning in Jefferson County court with first degree murder in connection with an incident Wednesday in rural Mt. Vernon.
Details have not yet been released. But Matthew P. Sloan has been charged with three counts first-degree murder.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 9800 block of East Webb of a possible fatal shooting.
Coroner Roger Hayse is meeting with officials this morning from the sheriff’s office and with State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun to discuss the incident. Additional details, including Sloane’s mugshot are anticipated to be released later Thursday.
Sloane is being held in the Jefferson County Jail, with bail set at $3 million. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for August 1, with a court appointed attorney.
