FAYETTE COUNTY — Dozens of federal agents in military vehicles, flatbeds, and cranes converged early Tuesday morning on the Fayette County home of an 82-year-old man who runs a military surplus business.
Officials were looking through storage containers on Bob Hanabarger’s property and seizing boxes inside. At one point, agents picked up an entire storage container with a crane and loaded it onto a flat-bed truck.
Agents from the US Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and ATF were on-hand, with the Illinois State Police providing additional support.
The US Attorney’s Office has not commented about the raid or investigation.
Several military and civilian vehicles were seen gathered early Tuesday morning in a vacant parking area on U.S. Route 51, across the road from Van Seal on the north end of Vandalia.
