FRANKLIN COUNTY — Former Sesser Mayor Ned Mitchell and a Sesser woman were arrested on drug charges Tuesday afternoon after Sesser Police executed a search warrant at a home in Sesser around 2 p.m.

According to a press release from Sesser Police, a subsequent search of the home produced methamphetamine and items consistent with the use of meth.

The 70-year-old Mitchell and 42-year-old Elaina Kays were both charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine and were taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Mitchell served as Sesser Mayor from 1980 to 2013.
He also served in the Illinois Senate representing the 59th district for one year.

Police say formal charges are pending.
