Tyler C. Murray was originally charged in Jefferson County court with Class X predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13 and two counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse when the accused was at least five years older than the minor victim.
According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun, all three counts allege the crimes took place within a 5 to 6 month period against two separate victims.
One case, says Featherstun, was investigated by the Mt. Vernon Police Department while the other was investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
A defense motion to sever the Class X charge from the others was granted Tuesday. Murray then pleaded guilty to one of the Class 2 charges in exchange for the other Class 2 charge being dismissed.
The Class X charge remains pending and a pre-trial hearing on that charge is scheduled for June 18.
On the Class 2 charge Murray was given credit for 322 days served in the Jefferson County Jail.
Murray has remained in the Jefferson County Jail since his June 2018 arrest, with bail set at $150,000.
