FAYETTE COUNTY — A 33-year-old Herrick man was charged Wednesday in Fayette County court with attempted first-degree murder stemming from the shooting Monday morning of an acquaintance in Shobonier.

According to Fayette County State’s Attorney Josh Morrison, he filed charges against Trevor McCammack Wednesday morning of Class X felony attempted first-degree murder, Class X felony aggravated battery with a firearm and Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm.

McCammack was arrested Monday morning after a manhunt for several hours resulted in a police canine apprehending him in a corn field north of a gaming bar in Shobonier. He had been sought in connection with the shooting of a male acquaintance earlier that morning.

According to sheriff’s reports, they received a call around 3:18 Monday morning from a resident in rural Shobonier saying a man covered in blood showed up at his home saying he’d been shot.

When deputies arrived they found the man had been shot at least four times. The victim was intitially transported by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital but was later transferred to a Springfield area hospital.

Morrison says he’s unaware of the victim’s current condition, but he knows the man underwent surgery for his gunshot wounds and is expected to survive. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.

Bail remains to be set in the case against McCammack who is expected to appear before a judge Wednesday morning to be formally charged.
