JEFFERSON COUNTY — Illinois State Police over the weekend arrested a 52-year-old Bowling Green, Kentucky man near Mt. Vernon in connection with a murder in Kentucky.

According to WDNZ-TV in Kentucky, Harold M. Bell was wanted for the shooting death early Saturday morning of 32-year-old Desmon T. Cunningham at a residence in Bowling Green.

Illinois State Police District 13 says it was contacted by the Bowling Green Police Department in Kentucky advising they were searching for a suspect who was wanted for homicide.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., ISP officials identified a vehicle matching the description provided by the Bowling Green Police Department on Interstate 64 approaching Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

The vehicle occupant also matched the description provided by the Bowling Green Police Department.

With the assistance of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, and the Mount Vernon Police Department, ISP officers conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and took Bell into custody. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains awaiting extradition back to Kentucky.
