A 50-year-old Wayne City man died Thursday night after his semi-truck hit by an SUV attempting to cross all four lanes of U.S. 51 just north of Irvington in Washington County.
Illinois State Police report the SUV driven by 39-year-old Bradley Wilson of Centralia struck the driver’s side door of the semi driven by Charles Youngblood.
Initial reports indicated Youngblood was pronounced dead by the Washington County Coroner, however, he was transported by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. where the Marion County Coroner subsequently pronounced him deceased.
Wilson was arrested by ISP for DUI alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to yield at an intersection. He was airlifted with non-life-threatening injuries to a regional hospital.
The crash occurred at 5:01 p.m. U.S. 51 was blocked to thru traffic for nearly 3 1/2 hours.
