SALEM — A 23-year-old Salem woman was killed in a car vs. pedestrian crash Saturday night on Route 37 north of Salem.

The Illinois State Police say around 10:30 Saturday night, Hailey M. Budde was walking north in the middle of the southbound lane quarter-mile south of Tonti Road when a minivan driven by 28-year-old Courtney C. Gunnels of Kinmundy attempted to swerve left and miss Budde but was unable to avoid a collision.

Budde was taken to Salem Township Hospital and succumbed to her injuries Sunday afternoon.
