JEFFERSON COUNTY — Shortly after releasing photos of a Mt. Vernon liquor store theft suspect Tuesday, authorities made an arrest in the case, bringing in 25-year-old Dustin L. Smith on a charge of retail theft.

According to Mt. Vernon police, around 1 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015, they received a report of retail theft at Lucky’s
Liquors, 1713 S. 10th in Mt. Vernon.

Upon investigation, a man was seen carrying an infant’s car seat with a blanket over the top of it.  The man concealed liquor in the car seat and exited the store.  He was seen arriving and leaving in a newer model gold Dodge Caravan with damage to the driver’s side front quarter panel.

Early Tuesday we shared two photographs of the man released by Jefferson County Crimestoppers showing the man and vehicle. At 1:10 p.m., Tuesday, Smith was taken into custody on a charge of retail theft. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
