Barbara D. Lemons, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:07 pm April 5, 2026 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born April 23, 1935 in Janesville, Wisconsin to the late Elmer and Grace (Bruce) Crowder. Barbara married Harold Lemons on February 16, 1957 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2017.

Barbara is survived by her children, David Lee (Candy) Lemons, Judith (Mike) Field, Beverly (Ed) Ramsey) Rodger (Marie) Lemons, and Sherrie Lemons; grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Galloway, Joshuah (Shannan) Lemons, Justin (Heather) Lemons, Jamie (Justin) Carver, Stephanie (Scott) Rose, Lindsay (Chuck) Grigsby, Eric Field, Melissa (Brian) Bertschi, Eddie Ramsey, Matthew (Amber) Lemons, Adam (Teigan) Lemons, Rachel (Christopher) Banes, Jacob (Emilee Irvin) Lemons, and Stacie Vercellino; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her stepfather, William Baxter; brothers, Charles (Flora) Crowder and Everett Crowder; stepsisters, Venita Kern and Wanda Lee Crowder; and grandson, TJ Gray.

Barbara has been a faithful member of Summersville Baptist Church since 1976. She enjoyed helping with the VBS crafts and was active in the quilt ministry. Barbara was a US Army wife and has been stationed in Texas, Alaska, Virginia, Missouri, and Germany. She worked in retail at Walmart and later retired from True Value. Barbara was a Jefferson County Senior Saint and an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends who loved her dearly.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Summersville Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Don Verhines and Reverend Joe Cooksey officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Barbara’s honor to Summersville Baptist Church.
