MOUNT VERNON — With approximately 30 protesters lining the sidewalk outside his place of employment, attorney Mike Curry this afternoon resigned his position with the Bankruptcy Clinic in Mt. Vernon.

Curry’s resignation comes after he made negative statements on Facebook Wednesday regarding an early morning crash on Interstate 57 that claimed the life of Marion County Correctional officer Adam Conrad, and sent a juvenile passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.

Curry had angrily taken to Facebook Wednesday after he had been stuck in the traffic jam resulting from the fatal accident.
We shared his comments in a story we ran last night about the planned protest and shortly after Curry deleted the comments from his Facebook page and offered an apology to anyone he offended with his statements.

But around 12:30 this afternoon, he came out of the office building and announced he was resigning from the clinic, saying what he did was not fair to the office.

Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Allen attended the gathering to support Officer Conrad and to assure that the assembly was peaceful.

Bankruptcy Clinic owner Jay B. Howd addressed the crowd upon arriving at their Mt. Vernon offices. Howd stated that he was on his way to discuss the matter with Curry and indicated that Curry would be making a public statement upon the conclusion of that meeting.

After a brief meeting, Curry and Howd exited the office building to address the crowd and Curry
announced to the crowd, his resignation, which will be effective February 5th.
