CENTRAL CITY — Dennis “Denny” Eggley, 65, of Central City, passed away, Thursday, September 22, 2022, at his home.

He was born August 31, 1957, in Olney, the son of Hayward Lee Eggley and Mildred (Sayers) Eggley. He married Lin Cozadd on July 18, 1995, in Salem and she survives.

In addition to his wife of 27 years, Lin Eggley of Central City, he is also survived by his son: Troy Basden and wife Michelle of Shiloh; his granddaughter: Lexi Basden of Centralia; four brothers: Tom Eggley and wife Esther of Petersburg, Fred Eggley and wife Judy of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Don Eggley and wife Shari of Neosho, Missouri, and Michael Eggley and wife Cindy of Des Moines, Iowa; sister: Paula Webb and husband Cecil of McLeansboro; brothers-in-law: Paul Cozadd and wife Theresa of Centralia and Rick Cozadd and wife Lora of Centralia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Don Dooley of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dan Warren of Xenia.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents: Hayward and Mildred Eggley, two nephews: Brent Eggley and Tommy Eggley, and a cousin: Jerry Ashford.
Denny served in the U.S. Army. He was a proud member of the Illinois Patriot Guard, where he was the Senior Ride Captain. Denny was also a member of the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Fouts Christian Church in Irvington.

Denny worked for FedEx for several years and retired in 2015. For the past couple of years, Denny became a valued member of the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home family. He helped the funeral home with assisting on many funerals. He also would take people to the airport in St Louis and enjoyed riding the Last Ride Motorcycle Hearse with his wife Lin for families. He enjoyed the wind therapy of riding motorcycles and fishing. Denny was a gentle giant and a family man. He never met a stranger and he loved his family and friends.

Funeral services for Denny Eggley will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. -Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and the Centralia VFW Post 2055. The Last Ride Motorcycle Hearse will honor Denny with his final ride to his final resting place.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022, at the funeral home and also from 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022, until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Patriot Guard and Fouts Christian Church and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, who is honored to be of service to Denny’s family.
