MOUNT VERNON — Dr. Kenneth Clark, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away on December 19, 2023 following a sudden medical emergency. He was born on April 6, 1937 in Oblong, Illinois to Carl and Emma Clark. He moved to Mount Vernon after graduating from optometry school where he maintained a practice for 55 years. He shared one son, Kenny Clark, with Bonnadean Reimer. He celebrated 30 years of marriage to Linda Capps Clark before her passing in September, 2021.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Kenny Clark, of Parma, Missouri in addition to his daughter-in-law, Melinda. He was a loving grandfather to Nicholas Clark who also resides in Parma, Missouri.

He was a member of Central Christian Church and loved serving the Lord. He had a passion for spreading the Word of Jesus through sharing Gideon Bibles. He participated in the Lion’s Club and the Shriner’s. In his spare time he would often visit and serve patients who were in local nursing homes. Kenneth was a devoted man who served his family and community in any way possible. He loved Mount Vernon and was privileged to call it his home for over 60 years.

He had a passion for building and carpentry. He was known to be the go to dad of the neighborhood because of his patience. Up until the very last days he was busy at home building crosses to share with family, friends, and anyone else who crossed paths with him.

Kenneth was a stranger to no one. He was the storyteller of storytellers. Whether he was traveling the world or serving his community he made everyone feel loved. He lived in the same neighborhood since 1977 where his neighbors became extended family. There was not a more joyous soul to be known. He will be sadly missed by everyone but his cheerful spirit will live on by the many who knew him.

Kenneth will be buried in a private graveside service at West Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Christian Church or Gideon’s Bibles is his memory.
