MOUNT VERNON — Some details have been released on the fatal pedestrian crash Friday in Mt. Vernon.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident occurred just after 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Broadway, when 41-year-old Christopher Carter of Mt. Vernon was driving his 1998 black Mercedes Benz east on Broadway near 42nd street when he struck a 58-year-old pedestrian in the left lane of the roadway.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver was not injured.

Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse identified the pedestrian as 58-year-old James Carter. You can find his obituary on our WMIX and WILY websites.

The investigation into the crash is still active.

Mt. Vernon police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred just a block away on Monday morning.

The pedestrian in Monday’s incident has been identified as 65-year-old Robert Bryan, of Carrier Mills.
