MOUNT VERNON — Veleta “Sis” J. Catron, 70, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:22 pm February 25, 2024 at her residence. She was born May 6, 1953 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Clyde and Pauline (Jackson) Ellis. Veleta married Larry Catron on July 23, 1973.

In addition to her beloved husband of nearly fifty-one years, Veleta is survived by her daughters, Michelle Rainey and husband, Tim of Florence, Alabama, Jessica Whitecotton and wife, Melissa of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Megan Catron of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryce Rainey, Chelsea Rainey, and Ciera Whitecotton; and siblings, Darlene James and husband, Billy, Gayla Cremeens and husband, Terry, Kevin Ellis and wife, Barb,  Duaine Ellis, Gary Ellis and wife, Linda, Jeff Ellis and wife, Pam, and Kelly Ellis and wife, Pam.

In addition to her parents, Veleta was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Cloyd and Betty Catron; brother, Verle “Butch” Ellis; infant brother; and sister-in-law, Glenda Ellis.

Veleta was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan. She loved her family especially, her grandchildren and was well loved by everyone.

A Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Harmony Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow.
