DIX — On February 25, in the year of our Lord, 2024 at 10:20 pm, Evalo Mays (Tate) from Dix, (Boyd) Illinois at the age of 88 years took the hand of Jesus, and danced on into heaven to be reunited with her loved ones that went before her. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves behind three daughters, Lisa Hart of Dix Illinois, Vicky Mays and husband, Ronnie of Dix, Illinois, and Debbie Eller and husband, Ken of Hindsboro, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Dwight Mooney Jr., Terri Lynn Mims, Brad Mooney and special friend, Christina, Brian Mooney, Nathan Mays, Jesse Hart and fiancé, Paige, Lindsey Keck and husband, Rod; six great-grandchildren, Dax, Colton, Clayton, Jack, Garret, Selena; two great-great-grandchildren, Caden and Finley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members as well as friends.

She was preceded in passing by her husband and soul mate of forty-three years, Donald P Mays; her parents, Jewel and Orville Tate; her sister, Betty Newberry; and an infant brother.

She was a very strong lady with a gentle spirit. She was a member of Fouts Christian Church on Dix/Irvington Road Centralia, Illinois. Before her retirement, she was an employee of the bank of Illinois in Mount Vernon, Illinois for many years. She lived a long life and she lived a good life. She was a wonderful mom, grandma and person.

A Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery in Boyd, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Evalo’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
