WILLIAMSON COUNTY — A fatal accident and a separate semi roll-over were reported Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 57 in Williamson County

According to ISP, troopers responded to a rolled-over semi-trailer on the right shoulder of northbound I-57 near milepost 44 shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The truck had a flat tire and the driver pulled over on the right shoulder and unhooked the semi with the trailer. When the driver pulled the semi from under the trailer, the right jack stand sank in the dirt and caused the trailer to roll over on its right side. The trailer was damaged but did not lose its load of pineapples. The trailer was removed at 6:10 p.m. No further information is available.

Then around 2:40 p.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on northbound I-57 near Marion.

The driver, a 73-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 72-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names were not released.
