
Dayton Wayne “Dick” Harlan, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:42 am April 14, 2026 at Green Tree Memory Care in Mount Vernon. He was born February 20, 1940 in Mount Vernon to the late William Dayton and Evelyn (Rodatz) Harlan. Dayton married Lucy (Zink) Harlan in 1958 and she survives.
In addition to his beloved wife, Dick is survived by his sons, Randy Harlan of Mount Vernon and Rick Harlan and wife, LaRhonda; grandchildren, Nichole Briscoe and husband, Marvin, Kyle Harlan and wife, Elizabeth, and Alyssa Hughett and husband, Jake; great-grandchildren, Tristan Poston, Tyson Poston, Aiden Briscoe, Remy Harlan, and Emmett Hughett; great-great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Poston and Maverick Poston; and brothers, Gaylord Ben Harlan and wife, Rhonda and Wayman Harlan.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Judy Harlan; and sisters, Barbara Farthing and Donna Bryant.
Dick was the owner and operator of Dayton Harlan Trucking for many years. He owned and managed Harlan Properties, as well. Dick was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed vacationing in Florida. He will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will begin at 12:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Dick’s honor to Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
