Robert J. “Bob” Deitz, 86, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:48 pm April 13, 2026 at Nature Trail Health Care in Mount Vernon. He was born August 11, 1939 in Mount Vernon to the late Harry and Armeta (Rainey) Deitz. Robert first married Sharon (York) Deitz in 1957 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Jacqueline (Lynn) Deitz in 2005 and she preceded him in death in 2020.

Bob is survived by his children, Teresa McIlrath and husband, Jim, Steve Deitz and wife, Peggy, and Lisa McGill and husband, Ray; stepdaughters, Monique Antos and husband, George and Ruann Barack and husband, Tyson; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Deitz; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Stover and husband, Gary, and Beverly Erwin.

Bob had pastored at several Baptist churches through the years. He also worked in the upholstery business, drove a school bus, and was a warehouse supervisor at Fairmont Supply.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 10:30 am at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon with Reverend Travis Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to the Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church or the Baptist Children’s and Family Services.
