
Darrell D. Yates, age 85, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Centralia Manor in Centralia, Illinois.
Darrell was born on June 12, 1940, the son of Edwin “Jack” Harold Yates and Irene (Wilkerson) Yates. He married Mona M. (Tabor) Yates on September 25, 1959, in Kinmundy. Together they shared many years of marriage until her passing on July 8, 2014.
Darrell worked for many years at North American Lighting in Salem and retired from World Color Press. He was a faithful member of First Christian Church. Darrell especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also cherished the many friendships he made with his High Pointe Residence family.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Ballantini and husband Tony of Centralia; grandchildren, Kacie Monson and husband Ben of Troy and Kristen Liebig and husband Travis of Richmond Heights, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Max Monson, and Jack and Abigail Liebig; brothers, Danny Yates and wife Jackie of Dickson, Tennessee and Denzel Yates and wife Joyce of Salem; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Irene Yates; his wife, Mona Yates; brother, Donald Yates and his wife Eva; mother-in-law, Bessie Tabor; nephew, Ed Yates; and niece, Lisa Taylor.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Crouse Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Phil Martin officiating.
