CENTRALIA — The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has taken action against a Centralia funeral home that recently received a complaint regarding conditions of the funeral home and more specifically the embalming room of the facility.
According to the licensing board, Hugh Moran, owner of the Moran-Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia entered into a consent order to permanently revoke his Illinois funeral director and embalmer license.
The order revoking the Moran’s license was signed Saturday, March 2nd, and is now in effect.
Per the consent order, Moran agrees never to file a petition seeking restoration of his Illinois funeral director and embalmer license. He is banned from working in the death care services industry, including employment at or operating any funeral home, cemetery, or crematorium in the state.
The agreement prohibits Moran from seeking or obtaining a license to sell preneed funeral and burial insurance in Illinois.
Capitol News Illinois last week reported on unsanitary conditions at the funeral home and detailed the complaint and video filed with the state. The complaint reportedly said the embalming room was spraying water from pipes overhead with bottles, trash, fluids, sheets, clothes, and things unrecognizable all over the room, saying quote, “the place is horrific, looks like something from a scary, filthy freak show.”
The news report resulted in an inspection of the funeral home on February 26 that confirmed the conditions and resulted in the subsequent revocation.
Moran has 30 days from the effective date to remove any references depicting the funeral home and embalmer licensure from his business website.
